Pride and Putrefaction

Find your betrothed at an elegant ball with high society zombies. 

While human/undead couples are still newly emergent in polite society, this late in the Season, your parents are becoming desperate to find a suitable match for their as yet unbetrothed children. That's you. They're willing to overlook almost anything if it means that you will be spared the terrible fate of being unmarried for yet another year…

What you need

To play this game, you will need the following materials:

• A tarot deck of your choice. The imagery of the deck will be used as a part of your storytelling, so choose something which appeals to you and/or fits the game theme.

• A notebook or somewhere digital to write to act as your private journal. 

• Two coins, or d2 dice, for flipping.

• (Optional) A single d20 for use with the rolling tables.

Content & Safety

Solo journaling games can make for rich, immersive experiences, but can also create situations that prompt intense emotions and imagery that may not be completely comfortable to work with. 

While this game is intended as a comedic romp through a bizarre ballroom situation, zombies in particular are associated with many potentially disturbing topics. The game does not provide explicit prompts for journaling, but the subject matter may attract such themes as death, undeath, decaying flesh, cannibalism, bodily fluids, etc. The game also includes the potential for sexual situations between the player character and one (or more) of their suitors. 

While the vibes of this game approximate a late Georgian/early Victorian period, we play with modern sensibilities regarding gender identity, expression and roles. Both player characters and suitors may be of any gender you desire.

If you are uncomfortable with any option that arises during gameplay, please feel able to take a break or stop playing. You can always redraw a card or reroll an option if it is something you do not like. That's totally allowed; remember that this story is yours to write. Your safety and health should remain a top priority when playing any game, whether alone or with friends.
